Bettering people's lives

In my first year as an engineering student I was faced with the challenge of thinking of ways to better the life quality of an individual that was diagnosed with hand dystonia using the Engineering Design Process. Utilizing the Engineering Design Process, me and my team were able to identify the problem and created an effective plan of action to follow in order to design and prototype the final solution.

Why a hand prosthetic?

The client's main complaint was that utilizing utensils in order to at and write was an extremely difficult task. We decided to tackle this problem by creating a multi-use hand-glove prosthetic that uses a glove and a brace with a utensil attachment that allows the client to carry out the tasks they were complaining about with ease.

Overall, this project was a successful one that taught me the essential Engineering Design Process. I learned how to identify a problem and how to come up with creative and innovative design solution that betters peoples lives. That is what being an engineer is all about.
